Mike says, "Where ever there is news, I go there...Depend on it."
Mike Synan came to WDBO looking for an internship, but he didn't get it. He got offered a job instead. Mike started in 1997 as a producer for the weekend overnight programs. He got his big break covering overnights during Hurricane Floyd, and is now a lead reporter at WDBO. "I literally started at the bottom and worked my way up," Mike said.
Mike has had a gift for radio ever since he attended college at Clemson University in South Carolina where he got a degree in political science. After college he got a job at WUCF where he was the sports director and host of a jazz show.
He came to Orlando with his wife, Mindy, who is originally from here. They met in college and have been married since 1994. Together they run the local Clemson Alumni Association.
Mike's most memorable news event was the 2000 election. "I got to watch each and every count within 15 feet of my face," Mike said. "Then when I went home I got to watch all the false information released on TV."
Mike has won several awards from the Associated Press, and most recently he was selected as the "Best Radio Newsman" in Orlando by the staff of the Orlando Weekly. Many of you may also recognize Mike as "The Sportsaholic", hosting several shows about the Orlando Magic on WDBO over the years. Don't forget to look for his columns on college football and the NFL during the Fall and Winter months. Mike's wife assures us, no one watches more football than he does.
