Hundreds gathered at Baldwin Park in Orlando on Friday, December 07, 2007, remembering the 66th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. A memorial was unveiled at the Central Florida Veteran's Memorial Park, next to the V.A. Hospital.
Some came in wheelchairs, others on crutches, all saluting the flag and remembering the day America was thrust into the Second World War. Jack Colby is President of the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Association, Chapter Two. He says the memorial is necessary.
"Some of these fellas saw a lot of action there. Others of use witnessed it helplessly, unable to give any assistance."
Dr. Neil Euliano chairs Central Florida Veteran's Memorial Park Foundation. He was well pleased with the nearly 200 people who turned out to pay their respects.
"We don't ever want to forget. We don't want to forget what happened, and the young men and women that rose to that challenge."
Oscar Sunsen was one of those men. He hopes future generations will learn from the sacrifices made nearly seven decades ago.
"If you don't understand the situation, you tend to make the same mistake again."
