Water all trees well the day before feeding. These ingredients can be premixed into a wheelbarrow which should make it easier to mix, then add it to the trench and water. Trees 3 feet or less should only have 1/2 cup citrus fertilizer.
Young Trees: 3-5 Feet Tall & 2-4 Years
- 1 cup granular citrus fertilizer
- 6 cups ironite
Spray foliage and trench with citrus nutritional spray, follow directions on the bottle
Bearing Trees: 5-8 Feet Tall and 4-8 Years Old
- 3 cups citrus fertilizer
- 9 cups ironite
- 1/2 cup super phosphate
Bloom special fertilizer on foliage (water soluble) not granular. Apply with hose-end sprayer and soak foliage. Follow label directions on the brand you purchase.
Feeding Older Large Trees
For larger trees you can follow the nutrient program for bearing trees. Since they are bigger you can increase the volume of nutrients but I want to warn you not to get carried away or they could get fertilizer burn. Fertilizer burn could result in killing the tree.
Garden Rebel Supplemental Spring Feeding Tonic
This can be used as much as every 2 weeks as a supplement to all your other feeding. Give 5 gallons of tonic to each young tree, 2-4 years old. Give 10-15 gallons of tonic for fruit bearing trees, 4+ years.
To one gallon of tea
- 1 Tbs. liquid detergent
- 1 Tbs. fish emulsion
- 2 Tbs. sugar
- 1 Tbs. Miracle-Gro
Always keep fertilizers, insecticides and tonics away from children and pets!
