Hello, my name is Lindsay, and I'm an alcoholic and a drug addict.
Lindsay Lohan took the 12-step pledge yesterday and accepted a plea deal in her back-to-back DUI cases that will send her to jail for just one day.
"It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs," the Long Island-raised actress said from her Utah rehab center. "Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed," the 21-year-old actress said. "I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case."
"No matter what I said when I was under the influence on the day I was arrested, I am not blaming anyone else. ... I thank God I did not injure others. I easily could have."
Under the plea deal, Lindsay must serve 36 months of probation, stay in rehab for 30 days, attend an 18-month alcohol-awareness program and pay about $1,000 in fines. She was also given a 96-hour jail sentence, three-quarters of which will be shaved off with community service and credit for time served during her July arrest. That leaves her with just 24 hours of jail time.
"I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so," Lindsay said.
Prosecutor Danette Meyers said, "Miss Lohan received the same sentence as anyone would receive given the same facts and circumstances." If Lohan gets nabbed again for DUI she faces a minimum of 120 days in jail, Meyers said.
