They've been his biggest fans, and it was quite a moment when Phelps hugged his mother after winning his epic 100m butterfly event. But, how come we haven't seen his dad? Where is he?

It has been documented that Phelps' mother Debbie and his father Fred divorced when Michael was just nine years old. But since, we haven't heard much about him.

Michael Phelps resides in Baltimore with his mother and two sisters. His father, Fred, is actually a Maryland State Trooper, lives in a suburb of Baltimore and has since remarried. But he still hasn't called Michael to congratulate him on becoming the first Olympian to win 8 gold medals in one Olympiad, though he did watch every race on the edge of his seat.

Fred Phelps did attend some races at the Athens Games in 2004, but since, the relationship has had broken ties.
