Racist Obama Shirts Cause Protest

T-shirts sold in a Georgia Bar show the character Curious George above Barack Obama's name...

Mulligan's Food & Spirits in Marrietta, Georgia, is quite the talk of the town and a protest rally organized by local minority organizations is expected today outside the tavern.

"It's time to put an end to this," said Rich Pellegrino, Director of the Cobb-Cherokee Immigrant Alliance. "There's no place for these views, not in this day and age," he said.

Tavern owner Mike Norman says the T-shirts featuring cartoon chimp Curious George peeling a banana with "Obama in '08" written underneath are "cute." "Look at him . . . the hairline, the ears, he looks just like Curious George," Norman said. He also says those offended are "hunting for a reason to be mad" and insists he is "not a racist."

Norman posts his rather controversial views regularly on the restaurant marquee. Some recent comments include "I wish Hillary had married OJ," "No habla espanol -- and never will" and the standard "I.N.S. Agents eat free."

Proceeds from the Obama t-shirts are to be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Right on. I hope the tavern owner sticks to his guns. I think he has a right to free speach the same as other groups do. We need more people like him!

Curious Obama
This is actually pretty lame compared to all the disrespectful things done to President Bush. It's very scarey to think this man has a chance at being our next president. I feel like shouting the slogan from that drink commercial "WAKE UP PEOPLE".

it is no wonder that there are those who don't see this shirt as racist. I am white and I know that referring to a person of color as a monkey is racist and does nothing but promote hate. Please America-Wake up.

I think the shirts are just fine. One can only hope for the day when Obama and "his people" reach as high in the evolutionary tree as the level reached by Curious George.

When I was growing up, I enjoyed watching Curious George. Now you have tainted the reputable Curious George show.

Is it Obama or is its Memorex?? I can’t tell the difference – in fact, he looks good! I can’t see why the Liberals dislike having Curious George associated with Obama?? In fact he’ll make a great running mate! He’ll bring the experience to the Democrat’s slate!!

Where Can I get one?
I looked all over and can't seem to find the shirt for sale anywhere. Sure looks like Obama to me. "Obama 08" Where's the racist part? What race is Obama anyway? Isn't he just as white as he is black? Don't white's have just as much right to be sensitive about the shirt then? I want a shirt. I'll find one eventually.

It is time we put an end to this. This being the oversensitivity of anyone on the wrong side of a bad joke, or bad comment. The "minority group leaders" need to get over it and get on with their life and stop crying foul at "everything" they don't like. I hear all the time how they want us all to get along, but that only seems to apply as long as we get along with them and what they want, and what they want us to say, and what they want us to do, otherwise we are being racist. Give it a rest already and grow up.
