Gas Prices Hit Record Highs In Central Florida
Bob Hazen 04/22/2008 07:19:57
Gas is hitting record prices in Central Florida, and drivers are being forced to change the way they drive.
AAA reports the average cost for a gallon of regular is now $3.52 in Florida, up from $2.90 the same time a year ago. That price is also higher than the national average of $3.49.
"I think it sucks," said Linda, a driver in Altamonte Springs filling up for $3.47 a gallon. "I drive around less and I try not to drive as fast because I have a lead foot."
The price she paid was actually somewhat of a bargain; many other stations around Central Florida are charging $3.60 and higher. Experts predict that unless something drastic happens in the economy, we can expect $4 a gallon gas before too long.

What others are saying
- Gas AlternativesI was born and raised in Brazil and there we use ETHANOL to move our cars. Ethanol can be produced from the corn and corn can be cultivated without problems. What are we waiting for? What's behind letting people go through all this hassle? If the government really wanted to help it would have done something by now. The cars we drive today can be converted for use with Ethanol in less than $1,000 dollars. Yet the government does nothing to change the pumps to ethanol and urge the people to convert their cars. There is surely behind the curtains that no one is understanding.
- Gas pricesA good way to save gasoline is to do small errands by bike. It is good exercise and could save you a gym membership. Driving slowly is garbage. It really can't be done on a sustainable basis. In Europe, gas prices have been a lot higher than here for quite some time. Their speed limits are more than 75 mph and sometimes more than 100.
- GasMy teenagers are not driving to school, they have to ride the bus. It was their idea. We think before we drive. We put errands together. Pick things up on the way to and from work. Cutting the grass is getting expensive too.
