The Orlando Magic are headed to the NBA Playoffs this weekend. In the playoffs, you can run but you cannot hide.
I know....there are some of you out there thinking that the orlando magic are going to win an nba championship this season. And that's great...that's what being a fan is all about; throwing objectivity out the window and having the confidence in your team to leap all obstacles. On this show though, I wear two hats: I am a fan....I am also an objective analyst... Would I love to see the Orlando Magic go all the way this year.??? Absolutely...I think this team, when playing at its peak, can contend with anybody in the eastern conference, and that includes the Boston Celtics. However, here's what the objective analyst part is telling me...We're still a few players and some more dwight howard experience away from challenging for a title. We have learned over the years that weaknesses are exposed to the nth degree by good teams in the nba playoffs. I realize that Going into Chicago tonight, the orlando magic have lost 5 of their last eight; two of those losses coming to doormats ny and Minnesot. Aside from the losses, it's how they are losing that may be an omen. We've talked much about the rebounding woes of this team lately. In six of the last seven, the Magic have been outrebounded and more importantly, they've been out worked and out matched under the boards. The lack of physicality under the hoop will eventually catch up with us. So will the free throw shooting: the Magic, at 72.2 percent, is one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the league. That's largely due to Dwight Howard. Superman's been all world this season; but the 58.9 percent free throw shooting may prove to be his kryptonite come the post season. Dwight's shooting at a clip of 52 percent in his last eight games. Now, one can make the argument that this team has not played a meaningful game in weeks, therefore, the numbers are skewed a bit by boredom. The playoffs are coming....My heart is telling me that this team is going all the way this year.....My head is telling me that, eventually, whether it be round one two or three, this team's weaknesses will be exposed. But, until that time, let's enjoy the ride!

What others are saying

  • Weakness Exposed
The Magic have struggled with three weaknesses this season, any one of them could prove to be fatal in the playoffs.
The three potentially lethal weaknesses are: Rebounding, Free throw shooting, and Turnovers. The Magic are going to have to play smart and with great energy to overcome these deficiences and move on in the playoffs. If you don't think that a team's weaknesses can come back to haunt you in the playoffs, ask John Calipari.
