DEEP THOUGHTS FROM GAME THREE
...We hope Jameer is gonna be OK. He got kicked in the back on a pick and roll in the second half. After the game, Jameer collapsed on his way to the locker room with a severe case of back spasms. The little guy is tough. Get well soon, Jameer.
...First priority at practice Friday: If you're getting a screen at the top of the key from Dwight Howard, WAIT for the pick! Hedo and the refs put Dwight in numerous compromising situations in game three.
...I realize that this Orlando-Toronto series is an afterthought in NBA circles. But, what in the good name of the late Darrell Garretson is wrong with the league sending referee Violet Palmer to Toronto Thursday night? In the irony of ironies, she wasn't even the worst ref on the court Thursday. Danny Crawford, the honor is all yours!
...Does Jason Kapono look at the basket before he shoots? We continue to give him slivers of daylight....He continues to drain bombs. He and Calderon are lights out right now.
...Chris Bosh scored his first point of the game with just under four minutes to play in the second quarter. The score at that time was 45-31. So much for the "you control Bosh, you control this series" theory. The NBA, Where Amazing Happens.
..."H-O-W-A-R-D...H-O-W-A-R-D..."Did you hear the Toronto crowd in game three? They even chanted "SUPERMAN S_ _ _ S!" Magic fans, remember that for game five Monday night at Amway Arena. Tickets are on sale right now for game five at blueand whiteignite.com or by calling 1-800-4 NBA-TIX.
...The officiating in game three was horrendous, but that's no the excuse for the loss. Toronto was the better team Thursday night. Our guys have to stop reacting to bad calls, zip our lips and just play.
What others are saying
- RefsThe refs did not cost the Magic game three in Toronto, but holy cow, don't playoff caliber teams deserve playoff caliber refs? Just when you thought that the officiating couldn't get any worse, along comes game three of the Magic-Raptors series. OK, so the refs treat playoff games differently than regular season games, but for gosh sakes, call it the same on both ends of the court and be consistent. A touch is a foul but an elbow or a jersey grab isn't? And for Pete's sake, Hedo gets all ball and lower body contact, and the stripes can't decide if it is a flagrant one or two? Twenty years ago, it would have been a good defensive play. I'm not saying reinstate Tim Donaghy, but surely, there are some competent NBA officials who don't consort with known gamblers. There is no conspiracy among the referees, only incompentence.
